It was another action-packed weekend for our two local football clubs, with Eynesbury Rovers earning a last-gasp point at home and St Neots Town celebrating a landmark league victory on the road.
Eynesbury Rovers 3 – 3 Coventry United
Eynesbury Rovers once again showed their never-say-die spirit as a 93rd-minute penalty from Lewis Lynn secured a thrilling draw against Coventry United at Hall Road.
Rovers made the perfect start when Lynn curled in a clever free-kick after just five minutes, before Erald Memaj doubled the advantage in the 14th minute following a slick move involving Victor Osobu.
However, Coventry — who had already wasted several chances — hit back almost immediately through Cameron Dunn, who later grabbed his second to level the scores before the half-hour mark.
The visitors looked to have completed the comeback when Ryan Harkin headed home from a corner midway through the second half. But the game exploded into late drama when Osobu was brought down in the area. Coventry’s Chris Cox received a second yellow card, Osobu was shown a straight red in the aftermath, and Lynn stepped up to smash home the equaliser from the spot.
The 3–3 draw means Rovers have now rescued points in stoppage time for two weekends running. They return to action on Saturday 30th August when they host Arlesey Town in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round (kick-off 3pm).
Coleshill Town 1 – 3 St Neots Town
St Neots Town recorded their first ever league win at Coleshill in the Northern Premier League Midland Division, producing a determined display to claim all three points.
After early pressure from the hosts, it was St Neots who struck first as Harvey Williams turned smartly in the box to fire his side ahead on the half-hour. Christian Tavernier then doubled the lead from the penalty spot just after half-time when Harvey Henderson was fouled.
Coleshill pulled a goal back through skipper Taylor Carter-Byrne’s powerful long-range effort on 72 minutes, sparking a tense finale. But the Saints held firm, and four minutes from time Kieran Barnes’ speculative shot squirmed through the home keeper’s hands to seal a 3–1 victory.
The win lifts St Neots into mid-table after four matches, and manager Cameron Mawer hailed the performance as a sign of his side’s growing resilience in a tough new division.
