It was a tough weekend for St Neots Hockey Club, with both the Men’s and Women’s 1st teams suffering defeats that leave them eighth in their respective divisions.
The Men’s 1st XI lost 3–1 at home to Bourne Deeping 1s. After falling behind midway through the first half, Charlie Evans brought the Saints level from a short corner. However, two second-half goals from the visitors sealed the points for Bourne Deeping.
The Women’s 1st XI were also beaten, losing 3–2 away to University of East Anglia 1s in a rearranged Sunday fixture. Saints trailed 3–0 at half time but fought back strongly after the break, with Kira Herbert and Marie Quintilla both finding the net to narrow the deficit.
There was better news for the Men’s 2s, who stay top of their division after an entertaining 3–3 draw with second-placed Bourne Deeping 2s. The hosts led 2–0 before Saints turned the game around with three goals in an eleven-minute spell — Andrew Pope scoring twice and Andrew Chin adding the other. Bourne later equalised to share the points, but the result means the Saints remain unbeaten.
The Women’s 2s lost their unbeaten record with a 5–0 defeat to Wisbech Town 2s, while the Men’s 3s also fell 5–0 at home to Cambridge City 5s, leaving them still searching for their first points of the campaign.
The Women’s 3s narrowly lost 1–0 at home to St Ives 4s, and the Men’s 4s, playing a friendly, were beaten 3–0 by Kettering 5s.
