Eynesbury Rovers’ FA Vase campaign came to an end on Saturday after a 3-1 defeat to Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Haringey Borough.
The game started brightly for the Rovers, who had the best chances in the first half. Luke Young forced an early effort wide within 40 seconds, while Lewis Lynn was denied by goalkeeper Dillon Barnes in the 13th minute after a slick Victor Osobu assist. Debutant Dean Dummett created another opportunity for Young, whose attempted chip narrowly missed the far post. At the other end, James Hoskins was alert to smother a low cross from Johnville Renee that had taken a deflection off Tommy Reynolds.
Eynesbury deservedly took the lead in the 25th minute when Max Kimpton drilled home a free kick from the edge of the penalty area, following a foul on Luke Young. It was Kimpton’s fifth goal of the season. Haringey threatened, with Coby Rowe shooting wide from 12 yards, before equalising in first-half stoppage time. Matthew Young’s 20-yard volley took a deflection off Bilal Sayoud and beat Hoskins.
The hosts dominated after the break, taking the lead in the 52nd minute when Herson Alves converted a low cross from Sayoud. Adrian Clifton added a third nine minutes later, heading home a Michael O’Donoghue delivery. Eynesbury pressed for a way back into the game, but long-range efforts from Babacar Camara and Michael King were off target, and Dummett headed over from a Kimpton cross.
The game did see Erald Memaj return to action after a lengthy injury layoff, coming on for Dummett for the final 20 minutes.
Eynesbury Rovers return to league action on Saturday 15th November, visiting Lutterworth Town for a 2pm kick-off.
