Eynesbury Rovers moved into the second round of the FA Vase with an impressive 3-0 victory over Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side Biggleswade United, who currently sit seventh in the league.
Rovers welcomed back Dammy Nickels, while Nathan George replaced an injured Oliver Brooks, Dan Hammer returned from injury, and Babacar Camara made his full debut.
The hosts made an instant statement, taking the lead inside just 70 seconds. Victor Osobu fed Max Kimpton in the penalty area, and he fired home his fourth goal of the season. Eynesbury dominated the opening stages, with Osobu seeing a shot blocked, Lewis Lynn testing the side-netting from a free kick, and Osobu hooking a Hammer long throw wide at the back post.
The second goal came in the 24th minute when James Hoskins delivered a long ball through the centre, picked up by Luke Young, who set up Lynn to strike a superb long-range effort into the top-left corner, his seventh of the season. Biggleswade had a chance shortly after when Reece King was sent clear, but his chipped effort went just wide. Eynesbury continued to press, with further attempts from Osobu and Young narrowly off target or blocked.
In the second half, Biggleswade began to create a few opportunities, but goalkeeper Hoskins and his defence held firm. The game was finally sealed in the first minute of stoppage time when Hoskins saved a Kit Brown header and launched a quick counter. Kimpton found Young, who fired home his 12th goal of the season, marking his fifth in five games.
The clean sheet was a welcome boost for Rovers, who had conceded 15 goals in their last five matches. The win also earned the Rovers £850 in prize money.
Eynesbury now turn their attention to a league fixture at home to Hinckley AFC on Saturday 25 October, kick-off 3.00pm.
