A St Neots mum has raised over £1,000 for Cancer Research UK after taking on the Race for Life in tribute to her late son, Daniel.
Jan Tyler-Shadwell, who lives locally, completed the event to honour Daniel’s memory and help fund the fight against cancer. Daniel passed away in 2021 aged just 43, following a battle with brain cancer. He left behind two daughters and a grandchild and has since become a grandfather to three more children born after his death.
“He was a lovely, talented man,” Jan told us. “He wrote and performed his own songs, many inspired by the place he grew up. His music lives on — and so does our love for him.”
Daniel’s work remains on YouTube, a lasting creative legacy that reflects his outlook on life and his surroundings.
Jan found the motivation to sign up for Race for Life from her Slimming World consultant Ursula and says her regular park walks at Hinchingbrooke played a big part in her preparation. While the race was an emotional experience, it was also empowering — a celebration of her son’s life, and a personal achievement she hopes will help others affected by cancer.
“I wanted to do something positive,” she said. “Every step I took was for Daniel, and for everyone still fighting.”
Her fundraising total stands at more than £1,000 — and donations are still coming in.
