There’s a new chapter ahead for the St Neots Initiative (SNI), as Richard Shaw MBE steps into the role of Chair following the group’s 29th Annual General Meeting at the Citizen Hub.
A familiar face in the local community, Richard has long been a passionate advocate for civic life in St Neots. Since moving to the town with his wife Sue, he’s been involved in a wide range of local causes and brings decades of leadership experience from the non-profit sector.
Richard takes over from outgoing Chair Alex Hughes, who has led the Initiative through a transformative three-year period. Under Alex’s guidance, SNI expanded its volunteer network, launched popular community forums, and helped shape key long-term projects — including youth leadership development, a local economic strategy, and the soon-to-be-launched St Neots Happiness Index.
Speaking about the handover, Alex said:
“Richard’s experience and dedication to the town make him the ideal person to lead the Initiative into its next phase. This role is all about purpose, and I know Richard shares that vision.”
Richard added:
“I’d like to thank Alex for the incredible progress he’s made. It’s a real privilege to follow in his footsteps and work with the brilliant team he’s built.”
The St Neots Initiative will continue to bring together local businesses, authorities, and residents to tackle the town’s biggest challenges — from inclusive growth to youth engagement.
