Bedfordshire Police is increasing its presence across Bedford this summer in a bid to tackle seasonal rises in crime and anti-social behaviour.
Under the #TogetherForBedfordshire campaign, officers are working alongside Bedford Borough Council, local businesses and community groups to target offences such as shoplifting, theft and public disorder—particularly in the town centre, where reports of anti-social behaviour rose by more than 20% last summer.
Chief Superintendent Jaki Whittred said the focus is on “strong, visible policing” to reassure the public and support local businesses during the busy summer months. Specialist teams are also working in surrounding rural areas to address countryside-specific crime.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Tom Wootton, said: “The best way to fight crime and anti-social behaviour is by everyone working together and by listening to our communities.”
