Time is running out for anyone hoping to start a career with Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service — with just one week left to apply to become a full-time firefighter.
The recruitment window, which opened in mid-July, closes at midnight on Wednesday 14 August, and the service is urging those considering a career in the fire service to take the leap and submit their application before the deadline.
Firefighters play a vital role in St Neots and right across the county — responding to emergencies, delivering community safety education, supporting during floods and road traffic collisions, and even carrying out life-saving interventions before paramedics arrive.
While the work is physically and mentally demanding, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue says the role is also one of the most rewarding and varied careers available.
“You Don’t Need to Be a Certain Type of Person”
The service continues to encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those who may not have previously considered firefighting as an option.
A spokesperson said:
“You don’t need to be a certain type of person to be a firefighter — but you do need to be motivated, a good communicator, a team player, and someone who cares about their community. If that’s you, then don’t let this opportunity pass you by.”
Applicants don’t need previous experience — just the commitment to serve, a good level of fitness, and the determination to succeed in the structured training programme ahead.
The selection process includes:
- Online aptitude testing
- Fitness and swimming assessments
- Medical and occupational assessments
- Teamwork and problem-solving evaluations
Apply by 14 August
If you’re based in or near St Neots, or elsewhere in Cambridgeshire, and want to make a difference in your community, now is the time to apply.
Applications close on Wednesday 14 August at midnight.
