One call could save a life – Police crack down on drink and drug driving.

Police crack down on drink and drug driving.

Police are urging the public to help keep roads safe this summer by reporting suspected drink or drug drivers, as figures reveal more than 300 arrests have already been made across the county this year.

Between January and July, a total of 305 people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. With summer bringing an increase in social events, officers from the Road Policing Unit (RPU) are stepping up patrols and roadside testing across the county.

PC Adrian Boddington, the force’s casualty reduction officer, said:

“Driving under the influence is never worth the risk. Every arrest represents a tragedy narrowly avoided – lives that could have been lost or changed forever. Please think before you get behind the wheel, and if in doubt, don’t drive.”

A confidential hotline – 0800 032 0845 – is available 24/7 for anyone wishing to report someone they suspect may be drink or drug driving. Police say even one call could save a life.

As a stark reminder, in St Neots, a man was recently banned from the roads after being caught drug driving twice in just ten days. You can read more about that story here.
