Drivers in and around St Neots can now travel on the newly aligned A428, which fully reopened this morning, Monday 9 June, following a weekend closure to complete works at Cambridge Road.
The newly opened section marks a key milestone in the local road upgrade, improving access and easing congestion in the area. However, motorists are being warned that some online navigation systems—most notably Google Maps—may still incorrectly show the road as closed.
National Highways has confirmed that this is due to mapping systems requiring a short period to update following the switch to the new alignment. They are currently working with Google to ensure the changes are reflected accurately as soon as possible.
Despite this progress, further disruption is on the way. The A428 will close again this coming weekend, from Thursday 13 June to Sunday 16 June, between Tithe Farm, St Neots and Caxton Gibbet, to allow for the next phase of works.
Drivers are advised to follow diversion signs and allow extra time for their journeys.
