A major milestone has been reached in the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvement scheme, with the new Roxton Road Bridge set to open to traffic on Monday 5 May, National Highways has announced.
The bridge, which spans the A421, is a vital part of the project and is designed to support the upgraded road layout, including a new westbound slip road and an eastbound free-flow link connecting the A421 to the A1 — something the previous bridge could not accommodate.
Lee Galloway, Project Director at National Highways, said:
"The opening of the new Roxton Road Bridge is an exciting milestone. It brings us a step closer to making journeys safer, smoother and more reliable for everyone."
Once the bridge is open, work will continue to complete the new Roxton Road link, which is nearing completion and expected to open to traffic later in May.
The A428 upgrade is one of the region’s most significant infrastructure projects, aiming to ease congestion and improve connectivity between Milton Keynes and Cambridge.
