New Community Café Opens Its Doors in Buckden

Buckden Village Cafe is now OPEN!

A brand-new community café has officially opened in the heart of Buckden, aiming to bring people together with great coffee, a friendly atmosphere, and a strong community spirit.

The Buckden Village Café, based within the popular not-for-profit Buckden Village Club, is now open daily from 9am to 1pm. The venture has been driven entirely by volunteers from the club’s committee, who have transformed the space into a welcoming hub for residents, visitors, and local groups alike.

Offering quality coffee supplied by local roasters Bohemia Roasts, along with a hand-picked menu of hot snacks and homemade cakes, the café has already proved a hit with families using the nearby field and playground, local sports teams, dog walkers, cycling clubs and others looking for a friendly spot to meet.

Amongst the first visitors was local MP for Huntingdon, Ben Obese-Jecty, who praised the café as a “community hub”:

“Great to get down to Buckden Village Café for its grand opening this morning!
The café is located in the Village Hall as part of Buckden Village Club and means that not everything is limited to being provided on the high street. It will act as a community hub and plans to show sports and events alongside providing a place to meet.
Queues this morning were out the door at 10am; I can highly recommend the carrot cake!”

Buckden Village Café is also proud to be part of the UK-wide Chatty Café Scheme, encouraging conversation and connection to combat loneliness. Volunteers are now being sought to help run the café’s “Chatter & Natter” table, where customers can sit down for a chat and some company. No experience is needed—just a smile and a bit of time to spare. Free training and flexible volunteering slots are available.

As one committee member explained:
“Our aim is to provide a safe, inclusive space that supports local suppliers, offers jobs to local people, encourages people to be active and social, and helps tackle isolation in the community.”
