
A significant fire at Monoworld Recycling in Rushden has led to a major incident declaration, with smoke visible up to 20 miles away and emergency services expected to remain on-site throughout the weekend.
Early this morning, a substantial fire erupted at the Monoworld Recycling Centre located on the Sanders Lodge Industrial Estate in Rushden, Northamptonshire. The blaze, involving a large quantity of plastic materials, prompted the immediate evacuation of the facility and neighboring businesses. Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, supported by Bedfordshire crews, deployed 12 fire engines, three aerial appliances, two water bowsers, and a high-volume pump to combat the inferno. Thick black smoke has been reported as far as 20 miles away, leading authorities to advise residents to keep windows and doors closed. The A5001 Wellingborough Road has been closed, and the incident is anticipated to impact the area for the remainder of the weekend. The Environment Agency is on-site to assess and mitigate environmental repercussions.
