A well-known independent flooring company in the heart of town has issued a public apology and called for understanding from the local community, after recent confrontations over parking in a disabled bay near their showroom.
Ian McLachlan, owner of Floored by Ian, says the business has faced “abuse, harassment and threats” from members of the public while trying to load and unload heavy flooring materials—sometimes items weighing over 100kg.
With no allocated loading bay, the team has been using nearby spaces, including empty disabled bays in the early mornings, to avoid blocking traffic. However, after complaints, they have now been told they are no longer permitted to use these spaces, meaning deliveries may once again cause temporary obstructions on the road during peak hours.
“We understand and apologise for any offence caused,” said Mr McLachlan. “But our staff are only trying to do their jobs safely and efficiently. We’ve reached out to authorities on numerous occasions for support or a solution—but we’ve been repeatedly ignored.”
Huntingdonshire District Council have been approached for comment.
