A passionate bid to launch Huntingdonshire’s first-ever indoor skate park has hit another major setback. Local entrepreneur Jason Emery raised over £20,000 through crowdfunding in early 2024 to get the project rolling.
The campaign gained national news attention and even led to Jason joining a business accelerator programme with support from Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC).
However, attempts to secure a suitable venue have repeatedly fallen through.
The first promising unit in Huntingdon was rejected due to a hidden clause in the landlord’s agreement with HDC, despite the unit sitting empty for two years. The latest attempt at a different site was also blocked—this time, planning officials cited safety concerns about increased footfall in a busy industrial estate and a preference for more “modern-looking” businesses.
Jason says he’s now navigating a frustrating maze of red tape. With winter—the most crucial time for an indoor skate facility—fast approaching, he fears the project may be delayed yet again.
He’s now issuing a final call for help: from those with planning insight, property leads, or direct landlord contacts, to anyone willing to get involved with the campaign. “It’s my life mission to make this skate park a reality,” Jason says, “but I’m running out of time and energy. If there’s help out there, now’s the moment to step up.”
