EXCLUSIVE: Work Begins on New Splash Park for St Neots

The long-awaited St Neots Splash Park is officially underway — with the exciting news first announced live on Black Cat Radio on the morning of Thursday 10 July.

Speaking to Black Cat Radio, Mick Marks, Chairman of the St Neots Aquatic and Leisure Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), revealed that construction has now started on the long-anticipated water play area, to be built on the site of the former outdoor swimming pool, next to Priory Park.

“We’ve worked tirelessly to bring this to life, and we’re thrilled to see it finally taking shape,”

The splash park has been several years in the making, with significant community interest and demand since the closure of the St Neots Lido in 2003. After years of campaigning and planning, the project received a major boost earlier this year with a grant awarded by St Neots Town Council, allowing work to finally begin.

Mick Marks described the funding as a “major milestone”, praising the “considerable time and funding” already invested by trustees to meet legal and planning requirements.

“This project is more than just a venue — it’s a promise kept to the families of St Neots,” he added.

A Community-Led Project with a Bright Future

The splash park will be built by the CIO and run by an approved operating partner once open. Local firm Brown&Co were commissioned to draw up the designs, which include plans for a vibrant, inclusive water play space, as well as a new café and additional facilities on site.

The target completion date is set for summer 2026, and excitement is already building.

Cllr Richard Slade, Mayor of St Neots and Chair of St Neots Town Council, said:

“This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when the community and council work together.
We’re proud to support a project that will bring joy to generations of local families.”

A Site with History

The site previously housed the St Neots Lido, which opened in 1961 and served the town for over 40 years before its closure in 2003. The land has remained unused since — but is now set to become a centrepiece for family fun in the heart of the town.

Regular updates on the splash park’s progress will be shared as construction continues.
