Dozens of Illegal E-Scooters Seized Across Huntingdonshire – St Neots Included

More than 70 e-scooters and e-bikes have been seized by police across Huntingdonshire — including in St Neots — following a crackdown on illegal and dangerous riding.

Over just three days last week (14–16 May), neighbourhood officers confiscated 68 e-scooters and four e-bikes, many of which were being used by children as young as eight years old. Some were carrying passengers or reaching speeds over 30mph.

The law currently bans privately-owned e-scooters from use on public roads, pavements, and cycle paths — unless part of an official rental trial or on private land with permission.

Neighbourhood Inspector Colin Norden said e-scooters are a growing concern across the area, often linked to crime and dangerous riding.

“The risks that the illegal use of e-scooters pose to both the public and the rider, especially in incidents with young people involved, are serious,” he said. “I hope the message is clear that we will continue to take a proactive approach around their use.”

As well as seizures, officers are also working with schools and parents to raise awareness and prevent misuse.
