A man from Biggleswade has been jailed for seven years after being found guilty of abusive, coercive and controlling behaviour towards a woman.
Tommy Heathcote, 39, of Anne Street, was sentenced on Friday (25 July) following an earlier conviction in March. Alongside the prison term, he was given an extended licence period of four years due to the danger he poses. He has also been placed on the sex offenders register and handed an indefinite restraining order.
The victim, who gave a powerful impact statement in court, described how Heathcote’s actions had shattered her confidence and self-worth, saying: “Tommy would belittle me and constantly bully me into doing whatever he wanted.”
Investigating officer Cema Miah, from Bedfordshire Police’s Emerald team, praised the victim’s courage and urged others experiencing abuse to come forward:
“I would like to commend the victim for her bravery in working with officers throughout the investigation.
