Bedford Kite and Motoring Festival Returns This June with Cars, Kites, and River Races

One of Bedford’s most popular summer events is back—The Bedford Kite and Motoring Festival returns to town.

The Bedford Kite and Motoring Festival returns to town on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June 2025, promising a packed weekend of entertainment for all ages.

Held across Russell Park, The Embankment and Mill Meadows, this free, family-friendly festival is expected to draw up to 40,000 visitors. The two-day celebration will run from 10:00am to 4:00pm each day and includes a wide range of attractions from high-flying kite displays to an impressive selection of retro and classic cars.

Festival organiser Adrian Grubb says this year’s car show focuses on “quality over quantity,” with around 300 hand-picked vehicles forming what he describes as a true “festival of motoring.”

The event also features:

  • Professional kite displays in the skies over the Embankment
  • Live music performances throughout the weekend
  • Cruises and races on the River Great Ouse
  • The thrilling Sue Ryder Dragon Boat Race, with more than 20 teams competing on the water

Councillor Andrea Spice, Bedford Borough Council’s portfolio holder for economic growth, praised the event, saying:

“This festival embodies Bedford borough’s commitment to bringing people together through shared passions. From awe-inspiring kites to lovingly preserved vehicles, every element celebrates creativity and heritage.”

Whether you’re a car enthusiast, kite lover, or just looking for a lively day out, the Bedford Kite and Motoring Festival is a standout fixture on the summer calendar.

Keep an eye on the Bedford Borough Council website and local social media pages for more updates as the event approaches.
