Huntingdonshire residents will be able to recycle food waste weekly from April 2026, as the council rolls out a new service designed to make sustainable waste disposal easier and reduce landfill.
From April 2026, households across Huntingdonshire will benefit from weekly food waste collections. Ahead of the launch, all residents will receive a 7-litre grey kitchen caddy and a 23-litre external grey food waste bin, provided free of charge.
Residents can place a wide range of food waste in their kitchen caddy, including raw or cooked meat and bones, dairy products, eggshells, tea bags, coffee grounds, vegetables and fruit. The contents can then be transferred to the external food waste bin for collection each week.
The service forms part of the council’s ongoing commitment to promote sustainable waste disposal, align with national recycling targets, and reduce the amount of food sent to landfill.
While recycling is being made easier, residents are also encouraged to minimise the food they throw away. Guidance and free resources are available through the Love Food Hate Waste campaign to help households plan meals, store food efficiently, and reduce waste at home.
