Drivers are being warned of road closures and diversions this weekend as work continues on the £1 billion A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvement project.
A1 Southbound and Black Cat Roundabout
On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September (6am–8pm), lane 2 of the A1 southbound will be closed between Wyboston and the Black Cat roundabout. The roundabout itself will also be shut during the works.
As a result, traffic from the A1 southbound will not be able to access the A421 westbound.

Vehicles heading for Bedford Road will be diverted south to Sandy roundabout before looping back northbound to the Black Cat.

Those needing the A421 westbound will be diverted via the A603 at Moggerhanger, rejoining the A421 at Cardington Interchange.
A1198 Ermine Street South
Meanwhile, from 8pm Friday 26 to 6am Monday 29 September, the A1198 Ermine Street South will be closed between Papworth Everard and the Caxton Gibbet north roundabout.
To keep traffic flowing on the A428, two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place at the Caxton Gibbet north roundabout. Drivers will be diverted via the A428 towards St Neots, then northbound on the B1040 St Ives Road, before rejoining the A1198.
The closures will allow National Highways to resurface sections of road, install new street lighting, carry out drainage improvements and upgrade utilities.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.
