As Bonfire Night approaches, Central Bedfordshire Council’s Trading Standards team has launched its annual inspection campaign to keep residents safe.
Officers are visiting local shops and storage sites to ensure fireworks are being sold legally and stored securely. They’re checking that all retailers have valid licences, products meet British safety standards, and that fireworks aren’t sold to anyone under 18.
Residents are urged to buy only from reputable, licensed outlets and to report any concerns about unsafe or illegal sales through the council’s website.
A council spokesperson said:
“We want everyone to enjoy Bonfire Night safely — and that starts with responsible retailers.”
