St Neots Man Takes Prostate Cancer Awareness into His Own Hands

Prostate Cancer Awareness Banners popping up across St Neots

A St Neots man diagnosed with prostate cancer has turned his experience into a full-scale awareness campaign across the town to urge men to get tested.

Dave Young, a former local business owner and long-time supporter of Black Cat Radio, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2024 after a persistent nudge from his partner’s father to get a PSA blood test. Though Dave had no symptoms, the test showed raised levels — a moment he now credits with potentially saving his life.

What followed was a campaign built from the ground up. Dave first appeared on Black Cat Radio’s ‘Your Voice’ programme in November, alongside his close friend Alistair Knott, who is living with stage 4 prostate cancer. Their message was clear: men need to talk about prostate cancer and get tested, even without symptoms.

Now, the message is hitting the streets of St Neots in a very visible way. Dave has designed a series of striking pop-up banners, printed with the support of The Business Printing Company, that urge men to speak to their GP about PSA tests.

The first banners have already gone up at St Neots Golf Club, Fitness Forge in Eaton Socon, and Tesco — with more to follow.

Last month Dave attended a Prostate Cancer awareness event in Leicestershire, armed with an audio recorder, and the stories he picked up there will be broadcast on Wednesday 23rd July on Your Voice at 11am.
