A Toseland man has been banned from driving after he was spotted disposing of empty wine bottles and buying more alcohol at Tesco in St Neots.
Staff noticed 64-year-old Graham Higgins drive into the car park on 19 August, place several empty bottles in a recycling bin, and then purchase more wine.
Police officers approached Higgins, who attempted to walk away from his car, and carried out a roadside breath test. He blew 92 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath – more than double the legal limit of 35.
At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on 4 September, Higgins, of High Street, Toseland, pleaded guilty to drink driving. He was disqualified for 20 months and fined £120.
PC Matthew Brocklebank said:
“Higgins was found to be more than twice the legal limit and still continued to buy alcohol. Fortunately, we were able to intervene before he could drive again.”
