Red Arrows Fly Over Paxfest as Squadron Leader Pays Nod to His Little Paxton Roots

Red Arrows flyby ‘Paxfest’ thanks to Squadron Leader with St Neots roots.

There was a moment of true village pride at Paxfest this weekend, when the legendary Red Arrows soared across the skies of Little Paxton — complete with signature smoke trails — as a thank-you to the Squadron Leaders hometown.

The display was arranged by Squadron Leader Andy King, who grew up in the village, attended Little Paxton Primary and Longsands College, and began his aviation journey with the 2500 (St Neots) Air Cadets. Andy worked with Red 1 and Team Leader John Bond to bring a personal touch to the celebration.

Posting on social media after the event, residents described the flyover as “fabulous” and a “privilege for our village fete.”

Paxfest drew large crowds once again on Saturday with a packed programme of community fun, live music, food and family-friendly activities. Entertainment throughout the day included performances by Bedford Pipe Band, Dewey School of Dance, Somersham Town Band and The Stamford Stompers.

The only damper on the day was the necessary postponement of the much-loved Fun Dog Show, due to health and safety concerns brought on by high temperatures. Organisers made the call based on updated Met Office forecasts predicting peak heat of 28°C right during the show window — The dog show has now been rescheduled for September, alongside the Autumn Flower & Vegetable Show.
