Large parts of St Neots were left without electricity this afternoon as strong winds caused disruption across the town.
The outage, which lasted for around 45 minutes in some areas, affected properties across Eynesbury and much of St Neots east of the river and north of the A428. Residents reported losing power shortly after 3pm, with supplies gradually being restored from around 3:50pm.
UK Power Networks confirmed that power was fully restored by 4:10pm. A spokesperson said: “Our engineers had to redirect power due to a fault on the electricity network.”
Earlier in the afternoon, the company had estimated restoration between 4:30pm and 5:30pm. While supply has now been reconnected, further outages remain possible as high winds continue into the evening.
A yellow weather warning is currently in place across most of England and Wales. In St Neots, gusts of up to 50mph have been recorded, with several trees reported to have been blown down across the town.
In a statement, UK Power Networks added: “We have additional staff on duty covering operational, technical and call centre roles as a result of the adverse weather.”
Forecasters say showers will ease for a time this evening before cloud, wind and further rain move in towards dawn.
