Bedfordshire Police are urging residents to be on alert after a series of burglaries in Bedford last weekend, as officers warn that darker evenings often bring a seasonal rise in such crimes.
Police were called three times between 8pm and 8.45pm on Saturday, 18 October, following reports of suspicious activity involving four men in a dark-coloured estate car in the Brickhill area. Homes on Constable Hill, Eagle Gardens and Lely Close were targeted, while a fourth burglary took place shortly beforehand on Ryswick Road in Kempston.
Officers say the offenders entered the properties and stole jewellery and electronic devices. The incidents are being investigated by Bedfordshire Police’s dedicated Operation Maze burglary team.
Detective Constable Kevin Howes said:
“We believe that members of the public may have seen these men or their vehicle at the time of these incidents. If you have any doorbell or dashcam footage, or noticed anything unusual in the area, please get in touch.”
As the clocks go back this weekend, police are reminding residents to take extra precautions, including locking doors and windows, keeping valuables out of sight, and setting lights or alarms to make homes appear occupied after dark.
