A distinctive leisure destination that has been a staple of the local leisure landscape since it opened in 1991 is looking for a long-term partner to acquire and regenerate the site, ensuring its continued role as a community hub for years to come.
The 6.29-acre site on Cardington Road, Bedford, known for its unique pyramid structure, is being offered on a long leasehold basis for leisure use.
Council officials are inviting proposals from leisure operators or investors with a vision to enhance and expand the facility’s offerings.
Councillor Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Customer Experience, Leisure and Culture, said:
“Oasis Beach Pool has been a much-loved facility, and we want to protect it for leisure use for future generations. We are looking for a partner who can bring fresh energy while respecting the site’s heritage, securing its future as a vibrant and inclusive destination for the whole community.”
The site’s location also makes it highly accessible, just a mile from Bedford town centre and close to rail connections to London, the A421, and major motorways. With Bedford set to welcome the forthcoming Universal Destinations & Experiences theme park and resort, which could draw up to 12 million visitors annually, the Council sees the Oasis Beach Pool as a key leisure asset capable of serving both local residents and the wider region.
Bedford Borough Council is now accepting proposals, aiming to secure a partner who can revitalise Oasis Beach Pool and preserve its role as a key destination for families and leisure-goers for generations to come.
