Life-saving defibrillator awareness session coming to Little Paxton

Defibrillator Awareness Session Being Provided In Little Paxton

Little Paxton Parish Council is hosting a defibrillator awareness session to give residents the chance to learn vital skills that could help save a life.

The event will take place on Tuesday 28 October from 7pm to 9pm at Little Paxton Village Hall, and will be run by the Community HeartBeat Trust.

The session will demonstrate how defibrillators work, how to use them in an emergency, and the importance of recognising the difference between a heart attack and a cardiac arrest. Participants will also have the chance to practice CPR.

Every year, more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the UK. Without immediate treatment, most are fatal – but a defibrillator can restart the heart while waiting for emergency services. Research shows survival chances decrease by around 10% for every minute without CPR and defibrillation.

Defibrillators – also known as AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) – are portable devices that deliver a safe, controlled electric shock to help the heart return to a normal rhythm. Many are now publicly accessible, often referred to as PADs.

A spokesperson for the Community HeartBeat Trust said:

“It only takes five minutes to learn skills that could make the difference between life and death. Knowing what to do in a cardiac emergency is one of the most important things a community can prepare for.”

The Parish Council hopes residents will take advantage of this free opportunity to gain the knowledge and confidence to act in an emergency.
