Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) is inviting local residents to a special open event for anyone considering standing for election as a District Councillor.
With District Council elections scheduled for 7 May 2026, the event is designed to give attendees a clear understanding of what being a councillor involves. Presentations from the Chief Executive, the Executive Leader, and senior officers will cover how the council operates, how decisions are made, and the importance of the Councillor Code of Conduct.
Attendees will also receive guidance on the election and nomination process, as well as information about the training and support available to councillors once elected. While the event is non-political, representatives from various political parties will be present to offer informal advice, and information will also be provided for those interested in standing as an Independent candidate.
Executive Councillor for Governance and Democratic Services, Cllr Jo Harvey, said:
"Being a councillor is an incredibly rewarding way to make a difference in your community. We want to ensure that anyone who feels they could bring commitment, insight, and passion to the role has the information and support they need to take the next step. This event is a chance to learn more, ask questions, and discover whether standing for election in 2026 could be right for you."
Residents interested in attending are encouraged to attend to find out more about the role and ask questions about what it takes to serve their community. The session will take place on Tuesday 9 December 2025 at 7:00pm in the Civic Suite, Pathfinder House, Huntingdon.
