Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) has confirmed it will take over the running of the weekly St Neots market, bringing it into the same management programme as its established markets in St Ives and Huntingdon.
The Thursday market in the town’s Market Square is seen as an important part of St Neots’ local offer, and recent improvement works have created a more modern, flexible and welcoming space for both traders and visitors. HDC says these upgrades will help support the market’s long-term development and strengthen its role at the centre of the town.
Executive Councillor for Economy, Regeneration and Housing, Cllr Sam Wakeford, said the council was “delighted” to take on the management and is committed to growing the market and creating new opportunities for traders.
HDC will work closely with St Neots Town Council on a varied programme of events for the Market Square, with more announcements expected in the coming months. New traders will be welcomed in the new year, and the council is encouraging those interested to contact them directly.
HDC also paid tribute to Wendy Fair, thanking the previous operator for many years of service to the St Neots market.
