The Balloon was heading for the Embankement in Bedford, but came in low over Castle Road and landed safely in Bower Street, just a few hundred metres short of it's target in Russell Park.
A balloon pilot has been praised after making a split-second landing in a Bedford street. Oliver Surridge, 40, set off from Great Staughton on Saturday morning, but a sudden change and then loss of wind left him “becalmed” over the town.
He had aimed for Russell Park, but instead guided the balloon safely into Bower Street, avoiding rooftops, wires, and cars. Residents on the ground, including 22-year-old Eben Chinn, helped pull the balloon down without damage.
The British Balloon and Airship Club confirmed the craft landed safely and no one was hurt
