Families driving through Wyboston last night might have thought they’d stumbled upon the world’s best toy box, as a fleet of bright orange lorries loaded with JCBs pulled into the layby beside the Crown pub near the A1 slip road.

The convoy of four trucks was transporting a range of JCB diggers and telehandlers – but not just any machines. These were part of the world-famous JCB Dancing Diggers team, a precision performance group often described as the “down-to-earth version of the Red Arrows.”

Fresh from their latest display at the Edenbridge & Oxted Agricultural Show, the diggers were on their way back home. The machines and their operators have become internationally renowned for their breathtaking routines, featuring diggers that bow, pirouette, and perform daring stunts with pinpoint accuracy. Over the years, they’ve curtsied for the Queen, dazzled television audiences, and entertained thousands around the globe.

Despite their fame, the Dancing Diggers remain a rare spectacle. They perform at only three or four shows each year, making every appearance a highlight for fans and newcomers alike.

Their latest stop was at the Edenbridge & Oxted Agricultural Show – a long-standing celebration of rural life where the communities of Kent, Surrey, and Sussex come together to showcase farming, countryside traditions, and the very best in local food and drink.

For those driving past Wyboston, however, the thrill was simply in seeing the famous fleet up close – a surprise slice of showmanship parked beside the A1.
