A 26-year-old driver has been caught drink driving after being stopped by police in Longstanton. Tapiwa Mhishi was spotted by members of the public driving a Jaguar along the A428 towards Caxton at around 10.30pm on Sunday, 24 August.
Observers reported that the vehicle was exceeding the 30mph speed limit and drifting across the road.
Police intercepted Mhishi on Rampton Road near Rampton Drift, where he was required to take a roadside breath test. The results revealed he had a blood alcohol level of 116, more than three times the legal limit of 35.
Mhishi, of Rampton Drift, Longstanton, later pleaded guilty to drink driving at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 11 September. He was disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to complete a community order of 120 hours unpaid work.
Sergeant Ian Leeson, who investigated the case, said:
"Thanks to the members of the public who reported Mhishi, we were able to stop him before he drove any further under the influence."
