Firefighters from Gamlingay and St Neots were among the crews called to tackle a huge lorry blaze on the A14 between Bar Hill and Swavesey on Monday afternoon (25).
The call came in at 4.15pm, with engines from Cambridge, the south roaming fire engine, Soham, Sutton, Burwell, Huntingdon, and a water carrier from Newmarket also in attendance.
On arrival, crews found a lorry well alight while carrying a load of straw bales. Firefighters worked hard to bring the blaze under control, the final crew left the scene at 2.30am this morning (Tuesday 26).
Both carriageways of the A14 were shut while emergency services tackled the fire, with checks on the road surface and recovery operations taking place. The route reopened by 5am on Tuesday, although one lane westbound remained closed for resurfacing.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
