Cambridgeshire County Council has launched a formal consultation on proposals to introduce a 20mph speed limit across most residential roads in Little Paxton.
Under the plans, the existing 40mph limit on Great North Road would remain in place but be extended slightly westwards. The move aims to improve road safety and encourage lower traffic speeds throughout the village.
Residents are being encouraged to share their views before the consultation closes on 30 October 2025. Comments can be submitted online via the council’s consultation portal here.
Local opinion is already divided.
Mary Stealey said: “I feel that the 20mph limit is a waste of time and money. Nobody will police it and those people that speed now will continue to speed whatever the signs say.”
Meanwhile, another local resident supported the idea, adding: “The high street towards the pits with no speed bumps needs addressing, especially near the junction by the playing field and GP surgery. So many children and patients coming and going — a 20mph makes total sense.”
However, Matt Pye, disagreed: “A total waste of money. The limit is 30mph at the moment. Cars race at night — changing the sign will do nothing.”
The consultation will run until the end of the month, after which feedback will be reviewed before a final decision is made.
