Central Bedfordshire Council has carried out a targeted enforcement operation to tackle the misuse of Blue Badge parking permits, including checks in Potton, Biggleswade and Sandy.
As part of a wider day of action across the borough on 25 September, enforcement officers inspected vehicles parked in council car parks and on double yellow lines. In total, 126 Blue Badges were examined during the operation.
While the majority were being used correctly, officers found two cases where the badge holders were not present, prompting further investigation. Two other vehicles were parked in disabled bays without displaying a valid Blue Badge, and penalty charge notices were issued.
Councillor John Baker, Executive Member for Finance and Highways, said the council remained committed to protecting genuine Blue Badge holders. He added: “Our action shows our continuing commitment to strengthen enforcement and to protect genuine Blue Badge holders. It also demonstrates why we make every effort to properly fund our enforcement teams, against a backdrop of government austerity.”
The council is encouraging residents to report any suspected Blue Badge misuse by calling 0300 300 4154 or emailing benefit.investigations@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk
