Bedfordshire Police Solving More Crimes, Says PCC John Tizard

Police and Crime Commissioner John Tizard

Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, John Tizard, says officers are solving more crimes than in previous years, with over 1,400 cases resolved so far in 2025.

Speaking at a Police and Crime Panel meeting on Wednesday (25 June), he confirmed that overall crime in the county rose by 4.7% in 2024/25 compared to the previous year, in line with national trends.

Mr Tizard highlighted the work of community police officers, patrol teams and detectives across urban and rural areas, who he says are achieving record levels of crime resolution. He also addressed recent misinformation, emphasising that community and neighbourhood policing remains a priority, with 103 community officers currently in place and 30 more due to join by the end of the year through the government’s Neighbourhood Police Guarantee.

The PCC outlined the wider police service supporting Bedfordshire residents and businesses, including nearly 1,500 officers and 1,200 police staff working across specialist units such as firearms, traffic, cybercrime, serious sexual crime and crime prevention.

The meeting, described as “extraordinary”, demonstrated joint efforts between the PCC and Chief Constable to ensure fair deployment of officers across the county and policing teams. The Police and Crime Panel’s role is to challenge, scrutinise and support the Commissioner’s work.
