Bedford Oasis Beach Pool to close for Winter from November

Oasis Beach Pool to enter planned suspension of use after October Half-Term.

Bedford Borough Council has announced that the iconic Oasis Beach Pool will enter a planned suspension of use from Monday, 3 November 2025, following a week of half-term events and family activities.

The decision to pause operations during the quieter winter season is driven by the age and condition of the building and its equipment, along with the significant running costs associated with maintenance and energy use. This prudent step will allow the Council to assess sustainable options for the site’s future while maintaining the facility in the interim.

Long-Term Vision for Oasis Beach Pool Site

Bedford Borough Council is actively seeking a long-term partner to regenerate and revitalise the well-known Oasis Beach Pool site. The 6.29-acre leisure site on Cardington Road is being offered on a long leasehold basis for continued leisure use, in alignment with the Council’s broader regeneration strategy and the growing needs of the Borough.

A Much-Loved Community Facility

Since reopening in May 2024 under the management of Greenwich Leisure Ltd (GLL), following essential repairs and a six-month closure, Oasis Beach Pool has welcomed over 117,000 visits. The facility features a leisure pool with a wave machine, flumes, and a small pool, and has hosted popular activities including inflatable fun swims, swim-a-song sessions, and relaxed splash times.

Cllr Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Customer Experience, Leisure and Culture, said:

“Oasis Beach Pool has played an important role in the health and wellbeing of Bedford Borough residents and visitors alike. This planned pause, driven by the high running costs of the site, allows us to maintain the facility during the quieter winter period, while we explore sustainable options for its future.”

Support for Members and Alternative Facilities

During the suspension period, GLL and Bedford Borough Council will ensure flexible membership options for Oasis Beach Pool users, including transfers, changes, or cancellations. GLL will also work with local community groups to help relocate sessions to other venues where possible.

Residents can continue to enjoy a wide range of activities across local GLL leisure centres, including:

  • Robinson Pools & Fitness

  • Kempston Pool & Fitness

  • John Bunyan Sports & Fitness

  • Bedford International Athletics Stadium

  • Mowsbury Golf & Squash Complex

A GLL spokesperson added:

“Since reopening Oasis Beach Pool in May 2024, we’ve welcomed the return of loyal customers to this iconic facility. We appreciate their support and are happy to help with any membership queries or signposting to alternative venues in Bedford Borough.”
