A Bedford man has been jailed after grooming a teenage girl with drugs and money in exchange for sexual activity.
Robert Brookes, 37, of Castle Road, supplied the victim with cocaine and cannabis before offering her cash to engage in sexual acts. He also attempted to groom one of her friends via social media.
He came to police attention when a relative discovered messages he had sent to the girl. Following an investigation, Brookes was found guilty of two counts of causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity, two counts of supplying a Class A drug and two counts of offering to supply cocaine.
At Luton Crown Court on Wednesday, he was sentenced to six years and three months in prison.
Detective Constable David Widdicombe, from Bedfordshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People team, said the case highlighted the increasing threat of grooming both online and in person. He urged parents and carers to be aware of the warning signs and speak openly with children about their safety.
