Bedford Borough Council is inviting residents aged 16 and over who have experienced domestic abuse to join a new initiative aimed at shaping local support services.
The Survivor Voice group will give participants a safe and supportive environment to share their experiences, discuss what helped them recover, and provide insight into how the Council can improve its response to domestic abuse. Members will meet with Council decision-makers to ensure survivor perspectives directly influence the development of future services.
The initiative welcomes survivors of all genders, sexual orientations, and ethnicities. Participants should be able to commit around four hours a month, with specialist support provided by Victim Support.
Councillor Jane Walker, Portfolio Holder for Valuing Families: Children’s Services, said:
"Survivors know better than anyone which services make a real difference, and where there are gaps or challenges. By listening to and learning from their experiences, we can build support that is not only compassionate but genuinely effective and respectful. I encourage anyone who feels ready to get involved to come forward – your voice can help shape positive change for others in our community."
The group will meet monthly in Bedford. Anyone interested is encouraged to get in touch before 7 November 2025 to find out more and register.
