Bedford Borough Council has launched a new service designed to make public transport easier and less stressful for residents and visitors. The app-free system provides live updates and alternative travel options without the need for complicated technology.
The service addresses common challenges for passengers, including confusion over routes and delays, particularly for those less comfortable with digital tools.
The new system delivers real-time updates via WhatsApp, Messenger, or by scanning QR codes displayed at bus stops, on buses, and at key local events, allowing passengers to plan journeys confidently.
The rollout is underway across Bedford Borough, with every bus stop expected to display QR codes linked to tailored journey information. The service has been developed in partnership with Bedford Borough Council and Journey Alerts, funded through the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) programme, with a particular focus on supporting bus travel.
Councillor Nicola Gribble, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said:
“We are delighted to introduce Journey Alerts to Bedford Borough as part of our commitment to making public transport more accessible and reliable for everyone. Whether you’re a frequent traveller, someone who finds bus travel challenging, or visiting our town for the first time, this new service will provide clear, real-time information to help you get where you need to go with confidence and ease.”
