Drivers are being reminded of a series of overnight road closures taking place again this week as essential safety work is carried out.
National Highways has issued a reminder of several overnight closures taking place this week as part of ongoing works on the A428 Black Cat Roundabout to Caxton Gibbet project.
From Monday 20 to Friday 24 October 2025 (9pm to 5am), the following roads will be closed overnight:
-
A421 westbound between Black Cat roundabout and Renhold interchange
-
A1 northbound between Tempsford and Black Cat roundabout
-
Bedford Road (Roxton to Great Barford)
The closures are needed to allow crews to install new safety barriers and street lighting along the A421 westbound carriageway.
Diversion routes:
-
A1 southbound: Continue south on the A1 towards Sandy, then travel west on the A603 towards Bedford and rejoin the A421 at Cardington interchange.
-
A1 northbound: Exit the A1 at Tempsford, take St Neots Road to Little Barford, join the A428 westbound, and rejoin the A1 northbound at Wyboston.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead, follow signed diversions, and allow extra time for their journeys.
