The Blue Knights, a group of motorcycling ex-law enforcement officers from Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, are back on the road with a powerful purpose — raising money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, the service that saved one of their own after a serious crash last year.

On Monday the 18th of August, they’ll kick things off at 8am at The Bell Pub in Great Paxton, where the Perky Beans Coffee Pod will be fueling riders with hot drinks and breakfast snacks — and donating part of its sales to the charity.

At 9.45 the ride moves on to the Tesco Superstore in St Neots, before heading up the A47 at half past twelve for the final stretch to 2 Flags.

If you’d like to support but can’t attend, donate at eaaa.org.uk or call 03450 669 999 and mention “Blue Knights Ride.”

The long-awaited Cambridge Children’s Hospital has taken a big step forward with the appointment of a construction partner. Set to be built at the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the new hospital will be the first of its kind in the East of England—an area currently without a dedicated children’s hospital.

It will unite physical and mental healthcare with cutting-edge research from the University of Cambridge, offering a “whole child” approach that supports both medical and emotional well-being. The six-storey building will feature 108 inpatient beds, operating theatres, a school, and an embedded 5,000 square metre research institute.

Children, young people, and families have been directly involved in shaping the hospital’s design, which aims to set new standards in care and early diagnosis. Construction is expected to begin within 18 months, with over half of the £100 million fundraising target already secured.

Best known for their 1986 hit Driving Away from Home (Jim’s Tune), Liverpool indie pop duo It’s Immaterial made a lasting mark on the UK music scene. But behind the scenes, their long-lost third album House for Sale has its own remarkable story.

Originally crowdfunded via Pledge Music in 2016, the album was delayed for years after the platform collapsed into administration. Undeterred, fans from across the globe pooled resources to bring the project back to life, with the record finally seeing release in September 2020 through Burning Shed.

One of those dedicated fans was our very own Ste, who not only helped fund the album but also managed to track down John Campbell – one half of the duo – for a chat shortly after its release.

Hear Ste’s conversation with John as they reflect on the band’s journey, the lost album’s resurrection, and what it all means to the people who made it happen.

The garden—built with £25,000 of Bob’s own money—sits within the cemetery off Little End Road in Eaton Socon and has been repeatedly targeted by vandals, leaving rubbish strewn across the site and causing deep distress.

Now, in a bid to identify those responsible, Bob is offering a £1,000 reward for information. But amidst the heartbreak, there’s a glimmer of hope: local residents have rallied in support, and CCTV will soon be installed to help protect the space.

In this follow-up interview, Bob shares how the community response has lifted his spirits—and why he’s determined to see justice done.

Bob invested £25,000 of his own money to lay new pathways and install ornamental pots, creating a peaceful space for remembrance. But in recent months, the site has been targeted repeatedly—seven times in total—with the latest damage discovered on Monday night.

In this emotional conversation, Bob describes how the wooden fence was set on fire, water butts meant to help visitors care for graves were emptied, and cigarette and cannabis butts were stubbed out in the floral tributes.

During the first COVID lockdown, chance moments led to unexpected connections — and one of those came when Ste reached out to classically trained guitarist and Royal College of Music examiner Bridget Mermikides.

For a bit of fun, Bridget recorded her own version of Left Bank Two — the jazzy, nostalgic tune made famous by the children’s TV show Vision On. With four overdubbed guitars and a playful fancy-dress twist, the video quickly went viral online.

Intrigued by the buzz, Ste chatted with Bridget about the surprise success, her creative process, and how lockdown created the space for something special to unfold.
