Bedford Blues hit top gear in the latest Battle of Bedfordshire on Saturday — hammering Ampthill 66–12 at Dillingham Park to climb into the Championship’s top six.
The Blues crossed the line ten times, with wingers Ryan Hutler and Dean Adamson bagging two tries each. Archie Benson, James Fish, James Lennon, Oisin Heffernan, Lucas Titherington and Will Maisey also got in on the act — Maisey converting eight of them in a near-perfect display. The bonus point was wrapped up inside the opening 25 minutes as Bedford surged to a 31–0 half-time lead, before adding five more tries after the break. Ampthill managed two late consolations, but by then the Blues were already out of sight. Director of Rugby Mike Rayer called the performance “surreal,” praising his side’s composure and attacking intent. The result marks Bedford’s sixth straight derby win and gives their Championship campaign fresh momentum. The Blues are back at Goldington Road this Friday night (31 October) to face Doncaster Knights under the lights.
