Two men have been arrested following a major incident at Huntingdon Train Station this evening, after police received reports that multiple people had been stabbed onboard a train.
Emergency services were called at 7:39pm, with more than 30 officers — including armed units — sent to the scene. The train was brought to a halt at Huntingdon, where the arrests were made. Several people have been taken to hospital. The condition of those injured has not yet been confirmed.
The incident is ongoing, and the A1307 has been closed as it approaches Huntingdon town centre to allow emergency services to respond.
Cambridgeshire Police are working alongside British Transport Police, who are leading the investigation. Anyone with information is urged to report it online quoting incident number 495, or call 101 if internet access is unavailable.
Rail disruption
National Rail Enquiries has confirmed that all lines are currently closed between Stevenage and Peterborough to allow emergency services to carry out their work. Delays of up to 60 minutes are expected and some services may be revised.
Services affected include:
- Grand Central between London Kings Cross and Bradford Interchange
- Hull Trains between London Kings Cross and Hull
- LNER between London Kings Cross and Lincoln, Doncaster, Leeds, Bradford Forster Square, and Harrogate
- Thameslink between Horsham / London Kings Cross and PeterborougH.
Thameslink customer advice
Thameslink services between Horsham and Peterborough have been suspended in both directions until further notice.
There will be no service to or from:
- Arlesey
- Biggleswade
- Sandy
- St Neots
- Huntingdon
- Peterborough
Passengers at affected stations are advised to speak to staff or use the green help point button if no staff are present.
Customers travelling from London towards these stations should alight at Hitchin, where further travel information will be provided. Journey times may increase by up to 45 minutes.
